Chapter 4

Jade ran down a hallway full of panicked people and busy guards, none of which paying her any mind. She was now running to where she had over heard someone saying where the frost blights were being kept, which was where she knew they Marion and Kern would be heading.

Hoping she was just getting even more lost, she was about to round a corner when she had the sheiks deep commanding voice shouting “He went that way!” She could hear a multitude of guards coming her way. Another run in with the sheik wouldn’t be good here either, especially after his insightful question. He surely couldn’t have known she didn’t belong here, could he? If he had known then that meant he definitely knew she wasn’t one of his harem women and that he had been trying to take advantage of the situation, which angered her.

In a panic herself, she pivoted on her heel and went right back the way she had been coming from. She was half way down the hall when in a blur of motion a door swung open right in front of her. She had barely enough time to make out Marion’s face before he grabbed her by the arm and pulled her in, preventing her from slamming into at full speed.

The door shut beside her and it was dark then save for the light seeping in through the spaces between the boards of the wooden door. Trying to move was useless in the tight quarters with the two of them hiding away in what she surmised to be a broom closet of sorts. Pressed up against the near six and a half feet of jelwin from shoulder to toe, she had gone from being to close to one man to another.

She could feel his breath gently behind her ear from where he had to lean over to fit in the room. It sent little shivers down her spine which she tried to ignore along with the electric pulse that snaked its way through her body. Why she reacted to him like this was a mystery to her, but it was much different than the feeling she had got from Dhajarem just now; the recent memory causing the blush on her cheeks to return.

“What the hell happened? Why didn’t you let us in through the door, we almost got caught waiting out there for you.” The hushed tone he kept he voice in to avoid detection did nothing to subdue the impact of the angered words. Before she could answer however the footfalls passed right outside of the door and they both leaned over just enough to peak out the cracks in the door.

Scimitar wielding guardsmen rushed by and then were gone and just as Jade was about to relax, the one person she never wanted to see again appeared not four feet away. Dhajarem entered into view, following behind the guards with his own weapon in hand but stopped just outside of the door.
